Esraa Abed
Esraa Abed does sculptures and installations that express a fascination for physics and physical sensitivity. The process of abstract scientific construction is also part of her work. Abed's sculptures are the result of a series of experiments that consist of constructs and balanced systems of order, made of multiple materials such as wood, iron, silicone, flour, water, plastic, herbs, cotton, steel, stainless steel, licorice, and more. These elements are organized mostly in a position where they can be easily harmed or obstructed. The combined materials stand as borrowed forms, reimagining a new system and questioning the value society places on objects. The artist aims to study the variety of possibilities in the uses of said objects and feels an urgent need to rearrange them based on natural and manufactural reasons. By merging the geometric with the organic, a sense of contrast is present, and her works become instruments of conflict that somehow manage to resolve themselves. New environments are created through connections between objects and space, vulnerable and always respecting the random nature of playful elements. Her witty take on human attempts to make sense of the world suggests a lighthearted appearance to the work. Abed’s work is dynamic, swirling compositions of objects that are assembled into a well-balanced and humoristic ensemble.

Some things in this exhibition are touchable and others are not. If you can’t tell if something is touchable or not- please do not touch it. If you decide to touch something or play with it, please do it gently; the exhibition is fragile. if you play gently we can play together; you can come over and i’ll let my barbie play with your barbie
