About

An annual alumni directory presenting the work of Palestinian and Arab graduates from various arts and design disciplines from various academies and universities in the country.

One of the goals of the Center for Contemporary Arts is to create an artistic space based on contemporary art produced by local, Palestinian, Arab and international artists. However, we believe in the Center for Contemporary Arts that we will not be different from our competitors in the local art scene as a gallery that displays art unless we set our eyes on it. Towards emerging creators, to support them first, and incubate their artistic productions second, those creators who will be the artists of the future whose performances everyone will look forward to, locally and globally.

In a quick look at the number of Arab graduates from art institutes and colleges in the country in various arts disciplines, we notice an impressive increase in these numbers. This interest in studying art as an art does not only go beyond the level of the artistic craft, but also elevates it to the intellectual, philosophical and academic level.

That is why it was necessary for us at the Center for Contemporary Arts to follow these graduates from the first moments until their last days in the various art institutes, and to think about the capabilities of the center to support them. Steps such as providing spaces for exhibition, experimentation and exploration in the corridors of the center enable them to work on their new productions and bring them to light, and the most important thing is to provide the opportunity for these graduates to be introduced to the local and international community about them and their new artwork. This step will smoothly and directly pave the way for creating a dialogue about what the arts are and promoting artistic criticism and its importance in the local culture, away from the stereotypes that they have studied throughout their years of education, and close to the real reality in which they live, which is certainly a great goal that we seek to achieve in the center.

Al Markaz Art Gallery

The "Markaz" Gallery for Contemporary Art was established in 2018 in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem in the building of the Bailey Art Center as an art space that aims to coordinate and display a collection of works of contemporary art by local, Palestinian, Arab and international artists, and as a new incubator for emerging Jerusalemite artists and independent artists. The gallery consists of several artistic spaces, including a gallery with an area of 200 square meters, a theater that can accommodate 100 people, and a cinema hall, which enables it to provide individual spaces for artists for experimentation and important exploration in the process of producing and displaying creativity, such as the artists’ marathon that the hall adopts as an annual ritual. Live in this process by looking at the works of artists and organizing workshops on exhibitions, and interactive projects with the Jerusalemite public in the neighborhood. The gallery, which has non-profit objectives, aims to form an interactive platform for diverse, enthusiastic and dynamic arts, between Jerusalemite artists and the artistic world, and between artists and the public.
